Here are some common error codes for the HP LaserJet series. Note that the explanations are general descriptions for ALL LaserJet, often more detailed information will be available if you are looking for a specific error code on a specific model.

    13.XX.YY JAM IN TRAY 1
    Description: A page is jammed in the multi-purpose tray.

    Recommended action:

  • Press for detailed information.
  • Remove the media from Tray 1, and then remove any media from the device.
  • Make sure the media guides and dial are in place correctly and match the media loaded in the tray.
  • Reload the media in Tray 1. Be careful not to exceed the fill marks on the media width guides, and then verify that the guides are in place.
  • To continue printing, press to clear.

  • 13.XX.YY JAM IN TRAY X
    Description: A page is jammed in the indicated tray.

    Recommended action:

  • Press for detailed information.
  • Remove the indicated tray.
  • Make sure the media guides and dial are in place correctly and match the media loaded in the tray.
  • Reload the media in tray. Be careful not to exceed the fill marks on the media width guides, and then verify that the guides are in place.
  • Remove any media from the device, and then reinstall the tray.

  • 41.3 UNEXPECTED PAPER SIZE
    Description: The printer detected a different media size than expected. This is usually caused if two or more sheets stick together in the printer or if the tray is not correctly adjusted.

    Recommended action:

  • Reload the tray with the correct size of print media.
  • If you are printing from Tray 1, make sure the correct paper size is selected on the control panel.
  • If you are printing from Tray 2, 3, or 4, verify that all paper size adjustments (length guide, guide width, size selector switch) on the paper tray have been made correctly.
  • After performing the above actions, press the Validate or GO button. The page with the error will be automatically reprinted if Jam Recovery is enabled. (Or, you can press Cancel Job to cancel the job from printer memory.)
  • The paper feed assembly might be bad. In addition, the paper feed / registration sensors may not be in their places.

  • 49.XX PRINTER ERROR
    Description: Firmware problem.

    Recommended action:

  • Touch Cancel Job to cancel the print job from the printer screen.
  • Turn off the printer, and then turn on the printer. You can try reprinting the document to see if it was a temporary error.
  • If the error persists, try printing a job from a different software application. (If the message only appears with a certain software application or certain print working, try upgrading the printer driver and / or firmware.)
  • If the message persists with different software applications and print jobs, disconnect all printer cables that connect it to the network or a printer. Turn off the printer and delete the print queue. Then restart the printer and computer, reconnect the cables, and try to print again.

  • 50.X FUSER KIT ERROR
    Description: A Fuser error has occurred.

    Recommended action:

  • Turn off the printer, wait 10 minutes, and then turn on the printer.
  • If the message persists, reinstall the fuser.
  • If that does not work, replace the fuser unit.

  • 51.X PRINTER ERROR
    Description: Beam loss has been detected If X = 2: Laser error

    Recommended action:

  • Press GO. The page containing the error will be automatically reprinted.
  • Turn off the printer, then turn ON.
  • Reattach the cables to the laser / scanner controller and motor.
  • Replace the laser / scanner. Then replace the DC controller

  • 79 SERVICE [XXXX]
    Description: The printer has detected an error.

    Recommended action:

  • Touch Cancel Job to cancel the print job from printer memory.
  • Turn off the printer, and then turn on the printer.
  • Try printing a job from a different software application. If the job prints, go back to the first application and try printing a different file.
  • (If the message appears only with a certain software application or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.)
